Turner Headlines Aug. 22 Football Kickoff Luncheon
Former
Purdue defensive end Keena Turner, now 50 and since 2000 co-owner of Tracy
Toyota in
Tracy
,
Calif.
, brings his experience and inspiration to the 2008 Boilermaker squad and fans.
He’ll speak at the August 22 Football Kickball Luncheon at Purdue Memorial
Union.
The
Chicago
native’s Purdue career from 1976 to 1979 included the 1978 Peach Bowl and
1979 Bluebonnet Bowl. In both 1978 and 1979, he was named first team All-Big
Ten. He holds a fourth place in Purdue records for 58 tackles for loss.
In 1980, he was selected by the
San Francisco
49ers in the second round of the 1980 NFL draft—the 39th pick
overall. He played 11 seasons for the 49ers, including four Super Bowl wins and
a trip to the Pro Bowl. Post-play, he worked in player and community relations
for the team, and from 1992 to 1995 was assistant coach at
Stanford
University
.
He also had a career in radio and television, serving as color analyst and
host of a preview show for many years.
In 2000, he opened
Tracy
Toyota with former teammate Ronnie Lott.
