SCORE Association, "Counselors to America's Small Business" is now available at the Swezey Commerce Center every Wednesday to provide free advice and assistance to current and potential business owners.

SCORE's experienced business counselors provide general business advice on everything from how to write a business plan, to cash flow management, to expanding your existing business.  SCORE provides key services - both face-to-face and online counseling.

"We are here to council people who want to start a business and people who want to solve a problem with their existing business". said Bob Bailey, district director of the organization that was launched in 1964 as the Service Corps of Retired Executives.  "Two of us will be in Lafayette every Wednesday.  We can handle six appointments each day, each one hour long."

The nearest SCORE chapters are in Indianapolis, Kokomo and Marion, and the organization views Greater Lafayette as a growth area that offers plenty of opportunity for assistance.  "That is the reason we want to be here," Bailey said.  I want to make this branch to a full grown chapter."

Bailey, a Purdue University graduate and a retired executive with Lilly Industries is also looking to recruit local business owners and community leaders interested in volunteering to share information about their success with others.

"It's not an organization strictly for retired people.  We have many people who are semi-retired or still working and want to volunteer their time to help others,"  Bailey said.  "We're looking for financial people and those in marketing, manufacturing and legal.  Were looking for people willing to take on the task.  It's a good way to give back to the community.
