New Barn Dance/Auction at Historic Prophetstown
Vintage Farmstead’s 6th Annual Event Bigger, Better Than Ever
Community members in the Tippecanoe County area and beyond can experience a fascinating and unique evening of food, music and dancing, capped off with a tandem silent and live auction, at Historic Prophetstown’s 6th annual Shine on the Harvest Moon Barn Dance, Saturday, September 18, 2010.
Already Historic Prophetstown’s heavy-hitter fundraising event of the entire season, the Barn Dance is receiving an infusion of fresh new ideas and extraordinary auction items for 2010, including the opportunity to become an exclusive patron sponsor for any one of the vintage farm’s 10 stunning Belgian workhorses.
“We’re expecting this year’s event to set a new watermark for us,” says Dris Abraham, Historic Prophetstown’s Chief Operating Officer. “The barn dance is already a one-of-a-kind experience in that it’s the only time all season we’re open after 5:00, giving attendees a chance to enjoy the farm at night. But, also, the auction items are even more intriguing than anything we’ve had in years past.”
In addition to the first-time horse patronages, auction highlights include an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of C-SPAN’s Washington studios with the network’s founder and Lafayette native, Brian Lamb. Also up for bid will be an authentic New Orleans Saints jersey signed by Super Bowl champ and Purdue favorite, Drew Brees, plus other autographed sports memorabilia, captivating artwork, Indianapolis tourism packages and more.
Calling the auction will be renowned auctioneer Alan Goetz of Alan Goetz & Sons Auction & Appraisals (www.alangoetzauction.com), while the dance portion of the evening is courtesy of local Howie Clark musicians, with Barry Ruben calling the steps.
While the Barn Dance has, to date, been a locally concentrated event, with attendees and support largely coming from the Greater Lafayette area, Abraham explains that members living outside the local area are highly encouraged to attend, and would earn the farm’s deepest appreciation.
Historic Prophetstown is a private, not-for-profit organization, situated inside Indiana’s Prophetstown State Park, just off of 9th Street Road, five miles north of Lafayette. A distinctive, educational and entertaining experience, Historic Prophetstown is a living, working farm that offers a real, hands-on opportunity to engage farm life as it was at the turn of the 20th Century.
